Do you love big bluegill?
here is what my paint booth looks like now, kind of resembles a cardboard box LOL. Any body got any ideas for an economical paint booth. Plans for a wood one? I would like something easy to store…Continue

Ok, I've been fishing one of these for a couple weeks now, and I've caught all sorts of fish on it. Bluegill, Green Sunfish, BG x RE Hybrids, and a LMB. Because of the spun hair head, this fly…Continue

I bought a bottle of head cement today. I think it has an applicator installed on the lid.

The metal pin goes through the lid. I can't push it down to get into the cement. Am I supposed to use the end with the red plastic to apply the cement to the fly? I can push the plastic down, exposing a loop of thin wire. Am I supposed to do that, then raise the plastic until the loop is covered, and wipe off any excess cement? Will I be able to use it again after that?
Or, should I just buy or make a bodkin?
I'm pretty sure I'll take to this like a duck to water. I used to do Native American beadwork. Intricate, detailed, TINY work, involving both hands at the same time. I just need to learn how to do all this.
Pictures, on the other hand, will be interesting. My camera has a focal length of about 4 1/2'. I can't do up-close, "macro" pictures with this camera. Now, if I can ever get a new lens for my D40, no problem with the small photos.
Allen I'm not a tier by any means but I enjoy it all just the same. We have good people here who will guide you all you have to do is ask. They have helped me lots even when you get discouraged that is of coarse if you do. Enjoy Allen and show us pictures of your work.
Hi everyone,
A buddy of mine on a different board sent me a care package. It included a vise, bobbin, whip finisher, hackle pliers, and all sorts of stuff to start tying up some flies.
Now, I've got to study up and learn.
Thank you Jen right now I'm using a water base fly head cement I will get some super glue gel and hope me the klutz that I am don't end up part of the jig. Thank you and every body for there help. I knew when I started this project I thought I would have help and the BBG family in true stile comes through as usual. What a great family to be part of. Again thanks.
Thank you Mark I need all the help I can get.
Dick, also a dab of superglue will keep things in place, especially when tying with foam.
Thanks Mark for the words of encouragement. Nice to know there are lots of brains to pick. I seen the Kevlar at Jans but didn't think about the breaking factor. Been watching you tube for 2 or 3 days now and the funny thing about it I didn't see one line break. So reality kicks in and I am going to have to make adjustments but I'm sure I'll get it.
gel spun kevlar is very hard to break a little slippery (wax) and a little thick but the hook will bend before the thread breaks. I broke thread 4 times on one fly today! a lot of times I put little knicks in my line with the point of the hook then its really easy to break.
Greg is right on with the Danville's (fly master plus) its pretty sturdy too if you get white you can color it with a sharpie pen so you won't have to buy as many colors.. It will come Dick sometimes when I try a new pattern it takes two or five tries to get it right. I tried a woven pattern today and ended up with three ties in the reject drawer that didn't even get finished. I'll recycle the hooks later.
