Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

What state would you choose to fish Bluegill if you could only pick one?

We are fortunate to have members from all over this great nation...One of my favorite things about Bigbluegill.com is the instant connection with the people that love and enjoy the same things that I do when it comes to all things Bluegill from folks all over the country.....Many of us have also had the great experience of fishing several different states whether vacationing, traveling for work or as a result of moving..... If you could pick one state to fish Bluegill, what state would it be and why? Thanks for sharing and I expect this may be a difficult choice for some and very easy for others.....Again, thanks in advance!

Good view point Mark....always make the best of what you have!

@ Jeff and Mark - I take alot of ribbing at work for that attitude. I always say,"Make the most of what you got"... which my teammate always thinks is funny.

I dunno why.

But it's a maxim I live by.

Now, if I could go fishing with Leo, I believe I could call it a good day!

Same goes for me buddy..same goes for me. Would be a terrific day out just hanging with one of the boys and girls in here. I would probably get my butt whooped and outfished, but just the fun of hanging out at the water hole is more than making up for the loss.

Know what I'd like most of all, Leo? Having the Maestro himself show me how to use his own Lunker Loogie.

LOL I'll do my best to record something this weekends outing to show off the loogie. Hope I can find that spawning ground quickly before the boaters go crazy all over us floaters.

You know I'm a little greedy but I know what's possible and what's not. Fact there are many places I'd love to fish and many places I have. I reside in Ohio but love to fish clear water which is harder to fish off coarse and not much of that in Ohio. My main go to lake's are in Michigan and I am truly blessed living on the Ohio/Michigan borders. Then again I'm 40 mile from Indiana and only fished it twice I just happy with the waters I fish in Michigan and there's so many other waters I want to try and the Lord willing maybe we can find ways to do it. I know there are many, many great places to fish but I have to fish when and where the opportunity arises. GOOD FISHING TO ALL......

Nicely put Dick....

HEY JEFFREY,

THERE IS MORE TO CATCHING FISH AND FISHING IN GENERAL THAN CATCHES THE EYE! I BELIEVE honestly my favorite to fish is Iowa. Also as a foot note it would be tough to select just one because since you are younger than me I'd pick your beautiful state Jeffrey! Here's why: I'll bet I could talk you into taking an old dude like me out for some gill and red ear action and as a bonus I could learn alot and mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmost importantly see the sunsets that you take such great pics of . No it's not just about the fish , but more importantly the people associated with our great sport.

Memories are all we have as long as the dreaded ALZIMERS, or how ever you spell it , doesn't kick in before we get to take pics of adventures we have. At least then you still have the pics.
Great question Jeffrey and I"m going to post a question of my own one of these days and see what happens. It will be interesting I promise.

  TOOTY

I totally agree Tooty and that's why I always share the other side of fishing....Where I went and who got to go....etc........I'd be lost without the ability to go wet a line!

thats a tough question, i fish in a couple of different states depending on where the fish are biting the best, and enjoy fishing in all of them. will have to think on this a little more. Good question

It's very interesting how different anglers viewed their fishing and translated their answers.....I agree with most if not all of you in some fashion and that's what makes avid Bluegill anglers unique people......I love the idea of wetting a line in a proven fishery but also get excited about Grandma's old one acre pond where the gills have packed on the ounces from the catydids and grasshoppers! So many states have wonderful bluegill fishing regardless of how it is generated and how many species can the same story be told? Thanks for your input on this discussion!

Jeff, I'll have to say just for me..Alabama has got to be one the best Bluegill fisheries here in the south, but I am a little predudice. I live about 60 miles from Ketona but probably will never get to fish that rock quarry due to kids trespassing and jumping of some old buildings to which several have been killed when they land on rocks due to intoxication and just bad judgement, so they keep it posted. But Alabama still has great fishing and surprisingly big Bluegill and shellcracker in lakes such as Guntersville, and a lot of public state owned lakes. I hope I have time to fish them all. LOL
