Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

The longer the rod, the further it should cast a lure correct?  Assuming everything is identical, would a 7' UL cast a lure further than say a 5' UL?

If so, what would the benefit of a 5' UL be?

You know I've ask that question for years so I bought 2 longer UL's last this year. It is true you can get a little longer cast but the 2 never made it through the year. One was a Berkey and the other being a Garcia. The Garcia was on the golf cart and drove cart in the garage closed the door and it got caught between one of the sections and now it's a 5 footer anyway. That one went to the junk pile. The Berkley was another story I was on the boat it was windy as it usually is when I get out on the water it seems, I opened the rod storage box pulled out the Berkley and before it cleared to box the wind blew the lid shut on the tip of the rod. The outcome there wasn't a good one for the rod so another one hit the junk. The longer rods did cast farther that's a plus but the 5 footers I felt I had better control over. I was thinking on replacing the broken rod but my preference is the five footers maybe cause I'm use to them and used them for so long and they are great rods. If you have to pick more than one rod by all means get one of each I'm sure you will get many hours of enjoyment from each.

Just picked up two of the St Coix Panfish rods (6'9" & 7') and got to fish them yesterday. On the 6'9" rod I fished 2lb yo-Zuri, Stradic reel, and a 1/8th spoon. With the 7" rod I fished 2lb XXX izorline, Stradic reel, and a 1/24th chub jig. Both rods cast really well and they are alot of fun to catch deep water Bluegill with. These rods are going to be well used this season.
