Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I went on you tube looking at different knots, and found one called the 100% knot. I sometimes have trouble seeing my 2 and 4 lb. test when I tie a improved clinch knot, and thought I would try something easier on my eyes. I lost two fish today because of knot failure. I finally just squinted hard, and went back to the improved clinch knot. Has anyone else on here tried this knot?

Everything I’ve seen gives the Improved Clinch knot a rating of about 75%, total line strength. There are many variables that apply in this and it isn’t a complete picture. But like you, I’ve never had an Improved Clinch knot fail that couldn’t be attributed to something I did wrong.

Hi David. I read one time that the regular clinch knot is stronger than the improved. I have no way of knowing.

Bruce

Bruce, regular is indeed is stronger than improved, because there's less twists, kinks, and creases during the knot making. However, the knot slippage is another story. Improved clinch knot, although making a crap lot more damage on the line, creates a higher grab to prevent knot slippage. We did this test on various line types in the past, and it did confirm.

I revisited youtube just a few minutes ago, and the Davy knot seems to be tied the same as the 100% knot. The fellow on the video said he didn't know the real name of the knot, and called it the 100% knot. It is recommended for small dry flies since there is very little bulk at the hook eye.  Until I learn a new knot, I will stay with the improved clinch knot and squint a little harder.

Vince, here is an assortment of knot that is worth looking into!!!!!
