Can't believe I'm thinking I would actually enjoy being out in the cold if I could catch 'gills like that.

amazing!!...so many certificate fish caught in a short time.

to top it off these are Northern Gills... such astounding profiles rivaling the southern gills.

Great Gill Video! I dig that drill auger! Beautiful and fantastic sized Gills !Makes me want to search deeper than the 8-12 ' zone I fished twice through the ice this year . YES ,release the big Males! I'd like to see a follow up to this video with details on what the main food source is for these Gills, and what competition from other species  these huge Gills have in this body of water .

Really nice piece........quality fish for sure.........I just wonder why the Northern Strain Gills are bigger in that region..........less fishing pressure? unique forage?

less pressure for sure the growing season is shorter the farther north you go..no matter what the forage they take longer to achieve a certain size

I'm of the opinion that coppernose, or southern BG have no ultimate growth potential over northern gills. Southern fish do tend to grow faster, but northern fish have longer lifespans generally. And since a bluegill's growth is indeterminate, (they continue growing their entire lives), that may even the playing field.

Interesting for sure Tony...........even though caught in the south.....the World Record Bluegill from Lake Ketona and the North Carolina State Record bluegill don't appear to be Coppernose in the available photos in my opinion.  Obviously technology today is incredible compared to the earlier years.........I just can't make out the signature traits like you can in those 3 pounders caught in recent years down at Richmond Mill........Regardless, I love big bluegill and it is awesome to see what's out there............And for someone like me that is just an average cold water angler it's very neat to see these fish caught in the winter season ...........
