Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

The past few seasons it’s been season outdoing the last. Knowledge base on top of knowledge base. Building on some great info from this site and time on the water. I’m anticipating and looking forward to even better results with more citation fish. Anyway that’s the game plan.

Last year was the season of fishing TINY. Thin UL Lines loaded on tiny 50 series reels and light UL rods tossing tiny baits in front of fish targets…quantities of quality panfish and trophy SMB. Tossed the baits into thick cover with reckless abandon. Tiny presentations under slip bobbers thrown next to thick weed slop and weed pockets. Mid day fishing out of the kayak in less than two feet of water and tagging quality fish. Never really had another fishing boat come close to me fishing. it was like i had the lake to myself. looking forward to making some more good memories in the upcoming season.

Looking forward to any hints suggestions or comments from the BBG membership… sharing is the best way to learn and progress!

hope everyone a successful "2016 Open Water Season"

20160825—what an amazing day on the water! I used a combination of techniques… vertical jigging, long casting the jigs and slip/float/fly/waxie. I tagged 4 b.gills between the 9 and 10” one topping the  9.7 mark taken on the LiL Minnow on a 1/64 oz jig head.

Many gills between th 8-9” mark with the LiL Minnow as well as the slip/float/fly/waxie rig.

Most of the B.Crappie were taken vertical jigging the laydowns and weed edges the remainder were long casting confined open water and deep weedlines with the 2” Power Minnow. So much action in just a short trip.

I fished the uptick on the “Fish Activity” using the Fishing Points Android App and scored big with many quality fish…. all CPR’ed

BFOTD!!!

...some video highlites from today

20160830—i planned today’s outing with with a few different goals in mind…

  •  1.  To fish thru 2 lunar periods during the day the major period during the late morning early afternoon from 11:03-13:33 and the minor mvt at 18:39-20:09.
  •  2.  fish the slack periods in between these lunar times.
  •  3.  This would mean being on the water for the longest period of time yet on the kayak. All part of the therapy plan. If you don’t push yourself a little you don’t make progress.
  •  4.   To catch fish!

Today’s Lunar Cycles:

I got on the water later than planned but made it for the major period during late morning. The fishing was all action including a trophy Y.Perch just short of Master Angler proportions. The Y.Perch was caught during the Major period at 13:08. First fish of the day was a lunker b.Crappie caught long casting the Power Minnow along the deep weedline edge. The remainder fish were caught using slip/float/waxie rigs, long casting swim jigs and vertical jigging the laydowns.

There was a long pause of slow bite and inactivity just as the activity graph displayed on the “Fishing Points” app. Recently ive been trying to schedule all my trips to the lunar cycle… trying to hit at least one major or minor period… hey it works!

Fishing started picking up during the minor period in the later p.m. was not as intense as the morning bite.

Lunker B.Crappie:

20160830—start of a good day with a 12” class b.crappie

Trophy Y.Perch on the Lil Minnow vertically jigging

20160830—BFOTD!! Nice Y.Perch…

Tody's Best B.Gill

20160830—Best B.Gill of the Day!!

Quality lunker P.Seed

20160830—Nice P.Seed on the slip/float/waxie

Todays’s selected catch… all CPR’ed!

20160830—Nice day B.Gill fishing on the home lake…

20160831- ...----~~<")))))><(--------------------------

tough to get the old bones moving today...missed the morning lunar peak. maybe ill make it out for the minor period.
