Do you love big bluegill?
Just curious, did anyone fish this season with a Tenkara Rod. I used a Fountainhead Caddis rod twice and had a blast.

i think you can get a basic tenkara for about 60 bucks.less than a st croix spinning rod.the ones i checked out at cabelas were tfo who makes a decent flyrod .around 90 i think.a couple rounds of golf or a downtown dinner.i dont golf and spend too much time in downtown chicago working and have no desire for a 60 dollar steak.life is short i am getting a tenkara.it's only money.you talked me into it
no ... not at all the fun factor does look does look high on this.
good for you Jim! ... it does look fun.
Ok, let me get this straight, a Tenkara rod is like a cane pole but it's not, you are using a fly on a straight pole with a fixed line, you can use a fly rod but you need to take the reel off. How about using the Tenkara technique with a fly rod with a reel , this would give you an adjustable line for different situations, kind of thinking out of the box type stuff, next lets see if we can use live bait , a cricket , on this rig and genitally present this offering to the fish, and if you really want to notice the strike you add a porcupine quill to the mix and you have the best of all worlds, people enjoy fishing with styles they have success with I know that what I do , Here is a picture of my Tenkara Rod with and adjustable reels on it , and live bait and a quill. Use the link below . All in would be under $85.00. It's an amazing way to fish. The direct connection to a fish is a head rush. The best of fly fishing without a reel. The basic set up is about equal to a 000 weight fly rod at 1/25 the cost. Problem is your reach is limited to 1 to 1.5 times the length of the pole.
BTW, David's suggestion would work if you want to dap for trout. Zero investment if you have a 10 foot telescopic. I would recommend 2 # test if you use that method.
Tenkara is designed to cast a fixed line. Each works and I use both methods.
If you have any questions, let me know.
