Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Caught these 3 and one I couldn't even turn I'm thinking it was one of my hybrid strippers on the 2wt this evening on my Dragon fly nymph. This one was a 10 hen the 1st fish 1st cast.

This was a 7" yellow perch on the dragon fly nymph.

Another small gill. Was out for about 20 minutes and 5 minute of that I had to go back to the house and get the camera.

Indeed they are. I've been using fly rods more than reel, and in training, I've been going even more ultra lighter rods for the spinning reels, which is equivalent to the 3wt. With another year, I'll be able to handle the delicate 2wt. I may need the largest arbor reel possible to add about 300yds of backing just in case I encounter a beast, or I'll be either loosing the rod or the entire spool worth of shorter backing.

That's why I go light on the tippet they may pull everything out but I know there's a strong possibility I'm getting most of it back.

I to only fish UL spinning I feel I'm getting more bang for the buck. That's what I caught my bass on last year my cover picture.

nice work Dick...what a feeling it must be to get these positive reults on your creative work

I do feel good about it. If you remember a couple week ago I was cleaning some weeds out of the edge of my pond and found these little dragon fly nymphs. So I took a picture stood it up at the fly tying bench and got it as close as I could. I still need to refine it cause I love the legs made out of pheasant tail but I know they won't hold up to numerous bluegill attacks. Made a couple with small diameter rubber legs they will hold up but don't look as natural.

For David who missed my post. These are dragonfly nymphs I got from the pond. This is what I tied to try and match the hatch.

Taking to long to tie one the legs are the worst part but think I will have to replace with rubber cause the gills attacking it will put the hurting on the pheasant tail legs.
