HSB's will definitely give it all they have when they feel a hook. In fact, during warmer weather and water conditions a large fish might succumb after a hard fight....they have been known to expire when the water's low in oxygen like it can be during the summer...they just use themselves up during the battle and can't recover.
Opps, meant to do this as White Bass and Striper.
I've heard two "theories" as to the origin of the "Wiper" moniker. Supposedly, it a combination of White Bass and Striper.
I've also heard that many years ago, Jerry Clower went fishing for Hybrids with some pro fisherman that had a TV show (Bill Dance, I think?). After loosing several lures, Mr. Clower said, "They'll WIPE your tackle box OUT!". And "Wiper" became the nickname for them.
I've tangled with a couple that were 5 lbs or bigger. They are a riot!
Oh, OK. I've heard them called Wipers in California. Sounds like the same fish.
Hybrid stripper is a cross between a stripper and a white bass. They can grow to about 30 lbs but realistic about 15 to 18 lbs.
Those Hybrid Stripers will take anything that resembles a minnow, Shad, or small Sunfish. Hybrid Strippers, on the other hand, are best tempted to bite with $5 bills.
Sooooo, what exactly is a hybrid stripper?
I know what stripers are, but...
And Robert says they're a blast to catch and Leo says there's a stripper population in Dick's pond? Oh, my! ;-)
Extremely healthy looking fish!
Greg he use a crawler. Since I feed them pellets there is not much in the artificial they will hit except that foam I made look like a pellets.
