Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

What state would you choose to fish Bluegill if you could only pick one?

We are fortunate to have members from all over this great nation...One of my favorite things about Bigbluegill.com is the instant connection with the people that love and enjoy the same things that I do when it comes to all things Bluegill from folks all over the country.....Many of us have also had the great experience of fishing several different states whether vacationing, traveling for work or as a result of moving..... If you could pick one state to fish Bluegill, what state would it be and why? Thanks for sharing and I expect this may be a difficult choice for some and very easy for others.....Again, thanks in advance!

Utah.  Pelican Lake is here. The DWR has projected that the next World Record Bluegill will come out of there. They are pigs. The state catch and Release record is from Pelican, 11 5/8, the catch and keep record is 11 1/2 at 2 pounds 7 ounces.

11 5/8" at 2 lbs. 7 ounces?? The relative weight on such a Bluegill would be over 174%.....

That would be one biiiiiiiggg Bluegill.....

the 11 and 5/8 wasn't weighed. It was just the catch and release record, the 11 1/2 long and 14 5/8 girth was the 2'7 monster. They are amazing. Next time I am out that way and have time to fish I will get some photos. The Record sunfish is 10 5/8 long and only 15.5 ounces.

Thanks Joe....Looking forward to those Pics.....

Thanks Joe, I love to hear about the diversity of Bluegill fishing throughout the United States and it probably surprised many folks to hear about the bruisers coming out of Pelican Lake.....I first read an article about your lake when I was passing through Salt Lake on the way to Hawaii a few years ago.....It does sound like you're doing it right out there...Good Luck...How big is your best bluegill out of Pelican?

I really couldn't pick just one state, but I would love to fish Santee Cooper for shellcrackers once. I know everyone thinks of it for big catfish, but some really good shellcrackers come from there as well.

I live in Ohio and we are blessed to have many great bluegill and redear holes, but if i could pick only one state it would be South Carolina down on the Santee chain fishing for giant crackers and gills. love Santee cooper.

10" shellcracker, on red worms. 3" finesse slip float, 4 ft of water, #6 Aberdeen hook. Pulled from the branches of a downed tree.

Clouds Creek, off Little Saluda arm of Lake Murray, SC.

The paint markings on the fishing pole are 1 " gradations, all the way to 12"

Nice fish Jeffrey

I was just looking for some input from the newer members of BBG.....Let us know what you think.....Jen started with Oklahoma way back in April.....

Thats a darn hard call there! I Love my native Florida but I'll admit I've seen some lakes and streams up in Alabama, North Carolina, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virgina, Kentucky...well damn I need to buy me a motorhome throw my flyrods in the back, kayak on top and go traveling!

You know I really would like to fish them all but to make an educated guess I know it would be one of the southern states lakes but without doing my homework I wouldn't have an idea which one.
