Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Me and my dad hit a good sized pond last night. Neither of us had fished it in a while. He was using nightcrawlers under a float. I took the jig head and grub that comes with a Beetle Spin and just tied it directly to my line. So im using it without the spinner rig that comes with it. I was using the medium sized one thats black with yellow stripes on its back that has the forked tail. I simply just jigged it the whole time. I ended up with 31 fish. Dad caught the remainders. We literally caught fish like ever minute or two for 2 hours. (7-9) Big storm and rain just had passed. 75% of these fish were smaller bass up to about 2.5 pounds. The rest were bluegills. I caught my biggest bluegill ever. 9.5 inches long. These bigger gills we were catching were very dark in color and very pretty too. I didnt take the first picture the whole time and now i regret not having a pic of that big bluegill. Ill be back for him soon. Thanks for reading

Fantastic!

Outstanding small water trip! Good for you!

Sounds like You and your Dad had a memorable moment something you can cherish forever. Jason you herd the saying take a kid fishing and they will cherish it forever, same holds true for Dads it's something he won't forget either. GOOD FISHIN..

Sounds like you had a ball, Jason. Some of my best memories are of the times my Dad and I shared together fishing. I can remember going with him as a 4yr.old toting a cane pole, fishing for bluegills. One time we were fishing a river backwater off a bank that was about 3' off the water. Dad always would tell me to hold onto my pole, well I laid it down next to me and as you can guess, a fat gill pulled it in. It was gliding across the water, and Dad cast out and got it back for me. I was all smiles after wiping away the tears from thinking my pole was lost forever. This happened almost 58yrs. ago and it is a memory that makes me feel good every time I think of it. Dad died last September, and I don't have a lot of pictures of us fishing together, but the memories of these times will last forever.

i hate to hear that your dad has left us; but its a date we all have to show up for; ive got tons of memories with my dad from when i was tiny all the way up til present day; its one of those things that we take for granted but we all need to realize how important these folks in our lives really are to us

Nice trip and good testimony Jason....

That had to be a great two hours of fishing with your dad. Good report, congrats on the trip.
