Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Fished my local hot spot again today! Caught 14 Perch to 1.5lbs and 5 pickerel. Then at the end of the day I hooked the surprise of a lifetime. I am a lure fisherman almost 100% of the time. So I usually don't target Carp. Today was the second day in a row where one ate my power grub. Yesterday's fish fought for like 20 minutes then the fish went under the boat and came off. I chalked it up to a cool fight but not one I would expect to repeat anytime soon. Well today I hooked another one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was alone today and after 15 minutes of drag pulling runs I was able to net half the fish...LOL. I hoisted her into the boat and then almost passed out. The fish bottomed out a 20lb Boga grip scale.....I have been told 25lbs is a good estimate. I am comfortable calling it at 20lb plus...Caught on my favorite G. Loomis TSR801-2 ultra light, Daiwa JDM Exist 1003H native custom, 4 lb Berkley crystal fireline, 6lb berkley vanish fluro leader, 1/16oz jighead and 2" Berkley powergrub in color melon pepper. The fish was released and swam away to fight another day.

Nice job Brian! Fish looks healthy too.

Helluva a beast - nice fishing work. You are pro grade,  for sure.

WOW. Damn that's a nice catch.

Excellent encounter with a great fish!!

Carp are a great gamefish that hit lures more often than you'd think.
