Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Setting here at my desk this morning drinking coffee and watching GMA, laughing  at how much the muppets Miss Piggy looks like Paula Dean when the phone rings . It my neighbor from across the street, He is a farmer south of town and called to ask  if I will help him clean fish? He has been lowering the water level in one of his ponds and today he thinks it is the day  we take all the fish out. The last time I did this I spent two days filleting fish , of course I get to take a cooler of solid fillets home with me to put in the freezer.  So this will start of Spring fishing for me if you call it fishing, it will be more like cleaning, but the end result will be fish in the freezer.  I think I'll sort them in coolers this time , Bass , Bluegill, and Catfish , so I'm waiting for a call in about an hour to see if it's on  for today  or we have to wait till tomorrow, I think I'll go buy a new electric filet knife  , they burn up pretty quick doing stuff like this .  What do yall think , Miss Piggy  does look like Paula Dean?   LOFR

You know that is unfair to Miss Piggy.LOL

Never saw Miss Piggy fry FROGLEGS!!!!!! She might have, well never mind!!!!

Piggy is as Piggy Does.

Ok , glad that is over with, did not see a single bluegill  from this pond, it was so full of rough  fish drum, shad and buffalo it was unbelievable. It had some big cats , big crappie , and big bass  but overall we removed 2000 lbs of buffalo out of this 5 acre pond . They drained it the rest of the way and will start over. Sorry I didnt get more pics but everything was getting muddy. I can't remember how many 6,7, and 8  lb. bass I fileted yesterday ,  and crappie up to 3 lbs.  The bluegill either left when the bayou flooded the pond or everything else ate them includings the snakes, but overall we came home with lots of meat.

Miss Piggy probably have plenty of Kermy's clones. Plenty of frog legs..She just doesn't admit it.

But man, bass', cats', and slabs' filets. Ooooooo..just make me salivate when I think about them. Looks pretty heavy on the silt. Did they deepen the pond? This is one hell of a fish sanctuary. Imagine 1 acre 5ft deep sand bed. Jeeze. You'll have massive population of everything blowing up left and right. But just wonder the amount of food you have to feed the choppers. Oiiyyy.

This wasn't a sandy bottom, it's what we call gumbo mud and it sticks to everything, these pics are from when we started, we lower the water another ft while we ate lunch. There were several of us using electric knives all afternoon andwith my hands all slimey I didn't want to touch my camera. Here's another pic with fish in the seine   LOFR

All that mud is from the bayou? Ouch. Must have a grand old time hauling all that mud out. I'm surprise they didn't want to wait until summer time when the mud dries out for easier time.

When it's summer time it farming time, my neighbor only time to fish is in the winter or in the rain. After He turns the diesel pump on on it will only take two day to fill the pond back up to normal level. Leo , here is another pic of the rest of the pond...   This area is also some of the best  ducking in North America.    LOFR

And I cant think of anyone that would be a more helpful neighbor AND fantastic cook than PAULA DEEN!

I bet Paula Deen would be a great neighbor and I would love  to eat some of her cooking, I just think Miss Piggy looks a lot like Paula Deen.    LOFR

I love Paula Dean.

An I gar-n-tee she would know what to do with all that fish.

I bet the first thing she would say is, you got to melt your butter !!

I know she would have some mega million callorie desert to go with it.

Chris, maybe we should send her an invitation to join BBG and get some recipes from her.     LOFR
