Do you love big bluegill?
As excitement is generated with the upcoming Bluegill peak in many areas, I was just wandering if there were any members that would like to share a favorite fishing trip they take every year or used to go as a child that has created a lifetime memory. For many anglers I know, these outings are the cornerstone of their love for fishing....

That's some fishing I'd love to try. I remember crossing Louisiana on a family vacation to Florida in the seventies in our motorhome and going over those long elevated stretches of freeway and seeing all that water down there and wanting to fish it so bad...
But I'm the only fisherman in my family, so in to Florida we went lol.
When my youngest is a old enough to enjoy it, I hope to take a family road trip to Disney World. I'm sure my kids would love it, and since my wife isn't from the US and has only seen California and not even nearly all of it, well, she needs to do it. The only way to fully appreciate the size and variation of the United States is to just get out and drive across it. And it's fun, too :-)
Just break down in South Louisiana for a few days and fish the Atchafalaya Basin JB.........We'll never tell anyone it was planned! Promise.......
I'm jealous, catch a bunch for me. LOFR
I hope to have a great time and catch a few fish to represent Louisiana.....
i would have to say some of my fondest memories fishing as a child with my dad were at an old swamp pond catching flier and shellcracker on crickets or red wigglers.when the bait run out pop pulled out his flyrod and i'd just watch amazed at his accuracy and the love he showed in doing it.
Those were the days Bobby....I got out fished a many a day in the back of my dad's boat while he was killing them with pinpoint fly rod accuracy....Thanks for sharing!
give him a purple creme worm he would skunk me and my bro anyday of the week
My remember my childhood days fishing Clear Lake in northern California. We would go up there every summer, visit my mother's side of the family and camp near Lakeport. Skiing was always fun, but I truly enjoyed going to Long Tule Point fishing for bluegills during the day and gigging for frogs at night. Back in those days I remember the gnats being terrible at night, but it made for great fishing just before sunset. After college and moving south, found Santee-Cooper. Those were fun filled days, learning to fly fish around Sparkleberry Swamp and all those shellcrackers, red breast and bluegills. These days I enjoy fishing for bluegill even more. Mountain Island Lake, NC has some good fishing, but seeing Jeffrey D. Abney's photos of eastern North Carolina, looks like a road trip coming soon!
Thanks for sharing Steve....I can definitely relate to Santee-Cooper as I'm drawn back every year despite having great fishing in North Carolina.....Frog gigging is just like catching Crawfish or Blue Crabs.....just a whole lot of fun......I still do all three and the police have been sent out to my subdivision when I'm frogging because some residents don't know what the guy is doing with a miner's light on his head and a big gig in his hand......LOL
Yeah it aint a complete trip if the cops don't come! hahaha :)
Nothing like nosy neighbors to keep you straight. I wonder what would happen if you shot a squirrel out of the trees behind you house. The National Guard, maybe?
One of the reasons I like fishing so much is you cant just shoot of a gun whenever you like
Nice story Steve that's something nobody can take from us, our memories.
Big warmouth - You cant go wrong. My pic shows me holding an average size one. Googleyes you have to filet. Whooooweee, thass sumpin good!
What I like is that you make these memories with your wife. My honey doesnt care to fish - not her bag. Perhaps in the future that will change.
Thanks for sharing.
