Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I recently got a bunch of lures off ebay, in a lot buy. I do this often, ie, buying lots of used lures. I clean them up, repair them if needed and end up with quite a mess of 'em.

Here's the latest pile, now cleaned up and re-hooked, a la Bill Modica's method:

Nice work David....let me know when you're having the next Garage Sale....LOL

I know, right? I cannot possibly fish all the lures I've amassed. Im an addict for sure. Wait til I tell you about the gazillion hooks I ended up with......

nice some of them should work good

Looks like a nice mess of spoons David they look new. Great job

David, you are truly an efficient person when it comes to use things that comes free. Look at you. Using a polystyrene material either from a packaging or a float noodles to put a safety cap on those hooks. I though I was the only one. Here you are, using them. Truly a man simplicity and efficiency. By the way, my tackle box is full of cutout squares to cover the single hooks that I used for the spoon, cranks, and spare. Trebles and dual hooks have their own plastic covers I got from BPS.

Leo, Thanks.

I am probably never going to reach your level of frugal re-purposing, but I certainly am trying! I love closed cell foam, and this stuff was cut from cushioning sections that protected an LCD computer monitor. You have a good eye.

I think we are kindred spirits, you and I. I'm always looking for alternative methods and materials that can be applied to fishing. Sometimes what I put to use has nothing to do with fishing at least on the surface. At different times, I find fishing techniques or items from some OTHER segment of the sport that I modify or accept as-is for my uses. In particular, I like to adapt OLD things that grandpa used, and which may have been forgotten today.

There are no hard and fast rules in all of this except those imposed by the quarry we seek. When I was a kid, I caught many fish on scavenged line, rusty hooks abandoned by others and whatever bait I could lay my hands on. These things taught me to be inventive and that there is much variation allowed within the field. The one real RULE is you must learn to place yourself on the fish, if you are to catch them. Outside of that, much is possible.

Very nice buy.....I can't say that I recognize any of those old spoons, but I can assure you they'll all probably get bit.....were the sproats part of the buy?

Thanks, Bill. That's comforting.

There are some Northland natural series types in there, several lighter weight jigging spoons and a 1/12 Kastmaster is buried in there, too. I got seven of those in the lot.

I purchased these based on size and weight, with panfish in mind. In my mind, they pattern after your techniques, which is the intent. Whether they will actually perform remains to be seen. 'Fact is, I enjoy piddling with them as much as anything! LOL

In that they are already a success.

The Sproats were also snagged during this round of buying, yes. They are all older stock Mustads. I ended up with a heap of bronzed 6's and 8's.
