Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

i have been using a small mitchell reel and a ultra light berkley tactix rod.. like many of you i have many poles but i allways pick this one for some reason.. i have alot more expensive setups but they are collecting dust. ( st croix-allstar)

You use super glue too?! Small world..small world. I used to use super glue to hold the insects down, but it simply destroyed the hooks, or the moisture prevent the glue from setting in quick enough to recast within a minute. So, no more glue. I just use the fly's tying thread with a quick two wrap from the bobbin. Quick enough. The bugger can still wiggle for the next minute or two before it drowns. The fish can't have the crickets unless they swallow the hooks. However, I find that using the Eagle Claw's bait hook with a stead hand, I can run the hook below the wings and hard body of the cricket without killing it, like a surgeon doing some major surgery, and the cricket can still struggle above the water with the hook above it's body for a good 5 minutes, before it either die or drown. I'm still debating what to use. Foam/crankbait crickets, or real ones. Both yield the same. I want to reward them with their last meals before they end up in the frying pan, or just go plain Mr. Evil on them.
