Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

What is the best way to line a telescopic pole? One that has no reel or guides. Just the flat eye at the end. I am looking to put line on a B&M cadillac rod..........Thanks Dwayne

Since no one else answered you, I usually just tied a length of mono to the eye at the tip.  Sometimes I would pass the line through the eye and tie off a foot down the rod just in case the tip broke you may still land the fish.  A small piece of electrical tape would keep the line from slipping up the rod.

I have also tied on my own eyes down the rod to attach a reel but that keeps the rod from collapsing and turns it into something like a whippy fly rod.

Hope this helps if you have any other questions ask.

John

John, thanks. I was worried about just tying to the eye. The tip where the eye attaches looked pretty weak to me. Once again Thanks.....Dwayne

Do what John says, tie up the pole a foot or so and then at the eye. Then wrap a bit of electrical tape around the tied off point and one in between.

I also add a drop or two of thin Super Glue to the eye's base - just to be on the safe side.

I agree with David. This is about the setup I use.  Some years ago my line was tied just to the tip eye and the eye pulled off. So made a change to current tie-up.
Thanks David, super glue sounds like a good idea to me. could you post a pic of what setup looks like. once again thanks Dwayne

A pic? Well... there isnt anything to see, really. The cyanoacrylate (super glue) is drawn in to the eyelets base via capillary action, so it isnt visible.I just drip a tiny bit into the top and bottom of the ferrule, then wipe off the excess.

Ive yet to have one come off. Come to think of it I've never had one break either. Just lucky, I guess.

AS for the tying and tape well, sure........

Hope this gives you the idea. Upper segment (to the left) is the anchor knot. I've used orange tape, cut into small strips and tightly wound on the poles tip. Tight and small is critical or the tip wont retract into the pole.

I also use clinch knot knot on the eye itself.

That helps out, that is what I was needing to see. I myself was worried about the eye. A lot of people just tie off at eye. did not look too strong to me. Thanks Dwayne
I just tie to the eye, only had one break & it was in the 70's.
Then there is this. I do that too - but I always dribble a bit of super glue into the eye's base ferrule.
