Sunfish 2016 by The Numbers.........Six Species Breakdown

Closed out 2016 yesterday with a total of 5,921 sunfish for 2016 with six total species caught on the Albemarle. Here is the breakdown by species during another great year.....

Coming in at Number Six for the year is the REDBREAST Sunfish:  Not as abundant on the Albemarle as other species but still doing well in several locations..........I release the ones I catch here hoping they will increase in numbers because they are very fun to catch.…

How The Last Three Months Stack Up On The Albemarle.........2016

As we close out what I consider to be peak on the Albemarle region of coastal North Carolina for Bluegill fishing, I wanted to take a glance back over the last three months and see how things went. Here's what I discovered for 2016:

 In May I fished 15 times for a total of 1,024 gills.........the largest creel was 120 and the lowest was 25........That worked out to an average bluegill creel of 68 for these fishing…

James BLUTO Gillette Sneaks into the picture in 2014.......I Call his baits the "Yankee Doodle" line.....

Seasonal Colors of Black Crappie

Many things that happen in nature are very interesting and the color changes for the Black Crappie species is pretty cool. Down here on the tidal waters these fish go through three distinct color changes which are easy indications of the season. 82 Days on the Albemarle.........a view from the Bluegill Chariot

I decided on a recent trip that I would look back and reflect on a few of the memories of the 2013 season to date....If you have followed me at all on BBG you know that I traditionally count down to Good Friday as this usually marks the end of Winter and our water temperatures begin their slow crawl toward the 60s as we wait impatiently for our beloved Coppernose gills to become active..........Within 75 miles of my residence I have 12 river systems and over 50 creeks that regularly produce…

My "Coppernose" Mount Rushmore for May 2013

The sun has set on May 2013 but not until it went down in history as one of the best May's I've ever had.....traditionally I package my summer vacation every year around the Full moon in June and that is no different this year.......The quality of this year's gills has been better than this time last year.....actually it was 2008 the last time I saw this type of quality....I know Mount Rushmore only has four famous people on it but I couldn't narrow my favorite gills down that far from last…
