I did not check the gill rakers. That particular day I was out fishing with the wife and concentrating more on getting her on fish than fishing myself, so I just got the one quick photo and released the fish, assuming it was GSF because I caught a few earlier.

I think there's some Greenie in there, it's just a case of what else... The markings do look somewhat like a Seed', but I have photos of some of our fish that display similiar coloration. The environment that the fish comes from can play a huge role in accounting for variations in color.

Did you happen to get a shot of the gill rakers? Based on this one photo, I'm going with BG x GSF, or PS x GSF

Josh, look very closely to the scattered marking near the belly, as well as the facial areas. The marking is uniform at the top, but yet, scattered near the bottom, along the ear, then to the mouth. P-seed has that odd scattered marking characteristics..yet..what intrigue me even further is the uniformity of the marking of the upper portion of the body, which is then focused on the GSF.

I have to defer this to the masters of the ponds and those who have been gill hunting for decades. They will provide much more knowledgeable identification than I can. I'm just an observer that notices things.

Now I'm very intrigued. I've never caught a sunfish that wasn't BG, HBG, GSF or RES. to my knowledge anyway.

Josh, Tony nailed the description on the displayed characteristics that I based upon. Not sure what we're facing without close up shots and on all sides. I'm still learning to identify them, as I collected tons of photos from fingerling to adults, of every sunfish specimen I could get my hands on. This one falls into the category of GSF x possibly existing hybrid p-seed and BG? That's why it's so intriguing looking.

Tony, you'll definitely see me in October! Wouldn't miss it.

I don't post on here near as often as I should.

Very funny, Josh! Hey, its Polish... it never makes sense. I think they planned it that way.

Good to have you here Josh. BBG faithful: Josh, (Omaha), is not only a fisherman extraordinaire, but a moderator over at Pondboss. I hope to meet him in person this coming October!

Sneeze and you'll be close.  Haha!  Mil-chu-ski.  Yeah, it doesn't make any sense.
