Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Jessica with a rainbow she caught today, her new personal best fish. Didn't measure, but my Mark I thumb says ~1.5 pounds. Good thing I brought my net, that thing was a fighter!

Nice job Jessica such a pretty smile. I know you made somebody proud. Keep fishing I know there's a bigger one out there with your name on it.

LOL. Know exactly what you mean with the conversation piece. Mine is, and has always been, the 6.5" dual edge hunter's knife, with a sickle style machete I play with all the time, beside my arsenal of razor sharp chef knives. I always seem to strike a nerve with the males at my wife's work place after the nurses talk to them about me, as I paid a visit to her work place during my day off.

Great to see DFG stock special stockers for kids. They do that down here as well, but have stopped in the recent years due budget cuts. We're lucky enough DFG stock enough of trouts to satisfy the public or the water around here will be void of life the way people fish around here at the local city's ponds. The lake near our house is slowly reaching the level of zero fish. You're lucky if you can catch one fish all day among a lake full or anglers.

@Leo - these were actually caught from shore in a small pond (not more than 5 acres, at a guess; probably less) in San Jose. it's one of the three Campbell percolation ponds in San Jose, and they occasionally stock trout in winter and catfish in summer.  They had (special?) stocking this weekend for a DFG Fishing in the City kids' fishing day.

Sadly, no watercraft of any kind are allowed there. Too bad, the first (and smallest) pond would probably be a great bass fishery if you could find a place to get a tube in the water. All or nearly all of the shoreline is lined with bullrushes, so there is little or no pressure on that pond. I would only C&R bass there, partly out of conservation, partly because the mercury levels are high and it's not recommended to eat indigenous fish there. The stocked trout and cats don't spend enough time there to build up high mercury levels, so they're OK to eat.

@Leo  - yeah, I'll need to keep a Streetsweeper shotgun mounted over the fireplace as a conversation piece. She's got her mom's flirty personality, too, so I'm really in trouble lol :p
