Thanks guys.......last chance for this year's Super Moon is tonight.....the harvest moon is often my last big push for gill fishing in big numbers on the Albemarle.....

This was on the Full Moon back in July but a similar bounty is possible now with perhaps a few more slab crappie that are pushing back shallow for a good feed ahead of going deep for the winter.......

Yeah Joe.......traditionally the smaller Crappie are readily available in these locations throughout the Summer and the larger fish return in the early Fall with lowering water temperatures......the recent hurricane eye passed only miles from this region and it pushed in an abundance of juvenile shrimp including this year's hatch of white shrimp......this buffet has pulled the larger fish into shallow wood and we took advantage......several large Crappie had the remnants of shrimp in their mouths......we had several over 14" and another dozen of 13" crappie as well.......most were caught three to four feet in water of similar depths.....July fishing gets tough but if you learn your area and determine the food sources it can be very rewarding.........It will take several wind tide events from the North to push these shrimp back out and the Crappie will gorge until they are back in the sounds........
