Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Been messing around with Jack Gartside's, "Soft Hackle," marabou streamer the last couple days. This type is a fairly sparse, wound marabou lure. I hit on the bright idea of doing it with bead eyes, like a Clouser minnow.
These are wound to be full out of the water, but are actually rather sparse overall. In the water, the marabou streams back and breathes sinuously... that's the theory, anyway.
I'll be closing down the tying bench for the upcoming season, at least for experimentation purposes. This may be one of the last new ties I do.
This seasons fly list (those I wish to concentrate on) is fairly short:
- Cypert minnows
- MM and Gartside minnows
- Briminators
- Gurgle and Hackled Ant foamies
- Soft hackles/ Nymphs
I'll also have a few rubber band grubs and Woolies along for the ride.

Thanks Carl

I tried a Clouser style for comparison, using marabou, and I think I prefer Gartside's "palmered" method better.

It takes less marabou for one thing, and has less bulk around the head.

Thanks, James.
All in time for the results. This one is a large fly compared to my usual. It's tied on a large eye, #6 Sproat... Overall, it's a couple of inches long.
This takes bead eyes that are pretty big, at 3\16" and 1/64 oz.
My notion for these is to fish them as deep sinking flies. Again, like a Clouser. So why not just tie Clousers?
First off, I have a lot of these big, stainless bead chains. That made it an easy choice: don't have to buy dumbbell eyes. Of I need more weight I can just wrap some lead wire between the eyes. Second, I wanted to branch out a bit and give the Gartside wrapped marabou streamer a try.
I'm pretty sure the bass will take a shine to these. I'm even thinking that I can cast these with U/L spin tackle.

Thanks, Allen. They don't really lay down like I had expected; they stay pretty "puffy" overall.
Once in the water that will change - again , the theory.
