David

A Cambridge is a village in Henry County Illinois.  It is East of the Quad Cities.  I guess I live about 40 miles from you.  I went out yesterday and had no bites.  The water was very dirty, because of the rain, and I think these unusual warm days these week should warm up the bite.  I had fun trying out my new rod and reel.  I also like this hi viz fireline, it casts  awesomely.   May the slabs and bulls continue to bite your awesome homemade jigs.

Hey Dilly,

No I live in TROY GROVE, IL. AND it's about 100 miles west of Chicago just north of route 80.  The crappie were only a foot deep on the big tree trunk in the water. If you fished deeper than that you get snagged in this one spot. THese bugs I use are not jigs in the traditional sense. They have a hollow metal bead for the head and normally sink vvvvvvery slowly. I use em with UL spinning gear and a small 5/8 bobber . I did have a spit shot on the other day though and am useing split shots more and more all the time now, all except when the gills are on the beds. Yep raining here this morning and am going tomorrow to a better spot were there are Big gills and crappies and hopefully more pics forthcoming.

 What's a cambridge?

David how deep were the crappie?  Are these from one of the ponds next to Troy City?  I live in  Cambridge IL, not to far from you.  With all this warm weather we are supposed to get this week, I can't wait to go fishing, and try out my new rod and reel.  Your jigs look great!   Were you horizontal or vertical jigging, or a jig under a boober?  Great catch!!!

Yep Dick they were good enough to eat but I released em all. THey were caught on my home made stuff and one plastic jig.  The pic of the micro on my page is exactly what I caught them on. NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNO LIVE BAIT HERE OLD BUDDY, BUT occaisionally I will use plastic bodys on a regular jig. ALWAYS THE SAME COLOR COMBINATION OF BLUE & WHITE.
