Jim, at the time I tied these, no, I wasn't painting the heads.  Now, I am powder painting.  I would probably paint the heads a dark olive or black for this color scheme. 

Tie in the marabou for the tail.  I usually clip the marabou in a set of hackle pliers, then fold the feather over the bend of the hook.  Tie in the flash, and have some go to the left and right side of the marabou.  Bring the marabou fibers back up, and twist it into a nice rope.  Wrap this "rope-dubbed" around the shank to the head.  Capture the marabou fibers, and trim the excess.  Tie in an appropriate soft-hackle feather, and give it a couple wraps.  Tie it off, whip finish, and Sally Hansen's to finish it off.
