Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

My buddies went up to the Sierra's this past weekend and he was told that this was a perch. I seriously doubt it's a perch but i can't seem to figure out what species this is. ANY HELP

this looks more like the species in the picture: http://calfish.ucdavis.edu/species/?uid=60&ds=241

Dorsal fin doesn't match at 45° from the UC Davis photo vs the posted photo. However, I can't argue at this point due to the lack of clarity. Let's wait for the next catch for an optimal photo.

it's not a good picture that he took. i'm thinking this is as close as i can figure it out:http://calfish.ucdavis.edu/species/?uid=60&ds=241

i thought it might be a carp, but the scales don't resemble a carp's scales. kinda looks like a sucker or chub but can't narrow it down to which species

Boy did I miss on that one Chris! Ten lashes with a night crawler, and a new pair of glasses for me.

You guys are right about the sucker part. Here's the DFG and Davis identifying site that I normally use:

That is not a perch. It has the mouth of a chub and the color is hard to see look's more of a smallmouth bass coloration also has the fin's of a chub, It's most likely a mix of "Something".

Yellow Perch have two dorsals or a split Dorsal . Thats not what we call Perch here in New Jersey!

This is what I call a white sucker that is used for catfish bait in the Carolinas......I believe the fish pictured most resembles this Sucker as Ronnie suggested......

This is what we call a river chub but the mouth looks a little different???
