Exactly...or know what to do if you're not!
Comment by dick tabbert on June 30, 2013 at 3:34pm

David I guess that means you better be on the right side of the river.

Dick, wait till I get the Super Wind cast figured out!
The one Tooty mentions is another, and is similar to the crossing
backhand cast I mentioned.
Seems alot has to do with which way the wind is blowing,
as there is a different cast for each direction!

HEY DICK AND DAVID , when it comes to wind knots I am a true professional at it !!!!! I have so many in my tippet that it looks like barbed wire laying on top the water ! Gave up trying to get em out years ago and when they get too bad I just tie on a new tippet.
One other solution to the wind is to learn the sidearm cast . As long as the backcast area is relatively open it helps alot . Really helps if fishing from a boat. .......

David when you figure out that wind situation let me know I'm the true king of wind knots and need some relief.

Thanks, Tooty!!
Never went in for the strong stiff, only in small doses.
I've been trying backhand casting, supposedly the solution for
casting into the wind. Its a trick, for sure.

HEY DAVID , CONGRATS !!!! YOU must be doing something right cause ya don't catch fish on this small a stuff by accident buddy...... Fly fishing is like riding a bike , once ya learn the basics it all comes back after years of not doing it.
Wind is our nemesis and can't do anything about that so just enjoy it buddy. ......... Yup Miller is good in my opinion but CROWN ROYAL is smoother !!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Dick.
I wouldn't say I got it down, but its starting to come back to me.
I never had any real instruction, just my BIL giving me "advice."
He was usually intent on fishing, himself, when not finishing off
one more Miller "High Life."

His instructional comments were something like...
"No don't whip it; you gotta feel the fly."
"Careful with that thing - you almost took my ear off!"
"Take a break and toss me another one of them beers, eh?"

Needless to say, fly flipping never really caught on with me. I'm only now giving it a whirl
after 30+ years. So I very much appreciate the vote of confidence.
Through it all, though, some good did come. To this day, I do like a cold, "High Life, The Champagne of Beer!"
