The holdover/larger trout will go banana for these.
Size #10 hook. I could have went to a #12 but all I have in the 12's and they are XX long's and I wasn't happy with the gap not much of one. The bully spiders in the picture are about 1/2 inch in length, I think they should work.
Those look good Dick, what size are you using ?
I've tied a bunch, but none for me. I need to tie some for me and give it a go....
I didn't know that. I made some up last year in black and the perch tore them up when nothing else would work. He made a great fly in the bully bluegill spider. I am hoping to try them perch out again..
They'll catch a fish, Dick.
Did you know Terry Wilson is a member here at Big Bluegill? Terry, with his wife Roxanne, originated 'Bullys Bluegill Spider' and co-wrote the book, "Bluegill... Flies and Fly Fishing." I think of it as one of my Top 10 fishing books and have read it several times.
Ive corresponded with Terry a bit and he is both affable and a hard working angler. Give him a buzz Dick and run em by him!
great ties DIcky!! proven gill killers to!
they look very similar to a late fly hatch going on in one of my lakes in late september
Ken the cap spider is on a 1/100 oz jig head. I tied that up to cast and slow retrieve. The bully bluegill fly is weighted at the rear of the hook so it goes down slow but the fly is sinking hook down that gives the legs some action a jugging fly for vertical fishing at least that's what I use it for.
nice ties Dick!
wish i could fly fish again
