Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Popped this girl tonight, just over a pound. Tremendous week, over 150 fish caught total, fishing an hour after supper every day.

This fish left me scratching my head...surely, surely she couldn't be gravid......it must be an injury of some kind....

"If a man positively knew all about it, he would lose more than half the fun of fishing.

In the dark, mysterious water, is a dark, mysterious life. Every time we go a-fishing. we learn something new and wonderful about it. And we know that the next time we go, we will learn again something more.

That is why all good fishermen stay young until they die. Fishing is the only dream of youth that doth not grow stale with age. No man has ever caught so many fish or so big a fish, that he does not hope to catch still more and still bigger ones."  - - J.W. Muller

Wow, Tony...she almost appears to be gravid, or in the process of the spawn. Great fish!

Thanks guys... Walt, this fish definitely has some RES in it. I think it's a Gillcracker, but she looks different than the Gillcrackers we normally catch in our ponds....Maybe a generation or two removed from the source, I just don't know. Funny thing is, it was absolutely female, and gillcrackers are touted as being predominantly male...like 95% in some studies. She threw me for a loop.

That fish looks like it might have some shellcracker in it, yes?

Awesome fish, Tony!  Is that from the unmanaged pond?
