Thanks Dink.....We had seventies and eighties this past week that gave us about a four to five degree jump in water temperature so in my opinion that was critical....It's got to start earlier this year as mild as our Winter has been....I should have stayed longer since the Daytona 500 never got started but at least I found a few.......Good luck...

nice fish jeff,still no fish here been going for the last 5 weeks bout 5 hours each time ,and only got 2 cats,no gills

Tony you're right on......the frigid morning forced me to wait until the afternoon and I'm sure I'll continue to catch the same fish now in that general area....instinctively these gills will want to start looking shallower........

I'm telling ya', all it takes is 4-5 degrees either way to make a world of difference where Bluegill are concerned.  Use your thermometers..... never mind the date on the calendar.

My fish weren't there this morning, but they were by mid afternoon, with the sunshine and warmer air temps... shallow coves, smaller ponds, steep banks that get deep fast, overhead brush........nirvana!

 NICE LOOKING GILL and can't believe the action is starting this early in the year! I may have to go out tomorrow even if OLD AL can't go. I'm itchin to wet a line and glad to see your pic and Tony's too!!! My gear has been packed for a week and cccccccccccccan't wait to go.

That's the only explanation I can find Jim......I can't say I was very confident with the nasty weather we had Friday night and all day Saturday.....I just fished this spot mid month but water temperatures were up about seven degrees, 47 then to 54 now. We often have to wait until Good Friday but I'm now thinking it will be St. Patricks Day in coastal North Carolina.......

I simply must do some gilling this week, as temps are predicted to go way above normal for several days.

Very slowwww Dick...I had just explained the technique in another comment and the sinking mini crank was being hit during the fall today because I would frequently just stop the bait and the striking fish would alert me to set the hook so it was fun to find a few....Not as cold as Tony had in Indiana but we did start in the mid twenties so I waited until mid day under full sun...........All the fish today were females and I released them for a future encounter!

Healthy looking fish Jeffrey and on a crank bait no less. I'm assuming it was a slow retrieve.

We were in the twenties this morning but with eighties last week and some more seventies this week we should see some fish wake up....These little ponds will warm up faster than the other waters but we appear to be going the right direction so that makes me happy!
