That one has colors I've never seen in this part of the country. Plenty BIG, too! Congratulations!

Certainly. The water is fairly clear however all the rocks and soil not the bottom is very dark in some places.

Intriguing. Looks like the probably high diet of shrimps and crabs increase the coloration due to the high content of melanin. Must be pretty highly dark water as well, and the fish takes advantage of the dietary support to increase the vibrant colors.

I am unsure as to the main food source here simply because they were released for another day. I have nothing against keeping some fish here and there, I just tend to let the big ones go. It is an interesting area that is spring fed but connects to saltwater marshes as well. 


The bluegill here eat a lot of baitfish, shrimp, and most likely small crabs too.

I have even caught them on 4" baby tarpon flies on accident. haha. They get big an mean in some of these areas.

This is a tremendous coloration. Do you know the food sources of this local waterbody from prior captives' gut content?
