So what happens guys...does an aging hybrid just succumb to desease, blindness and die? With raccoons and turtles and birds ravaging the remains?

Dick, Tony is correct. These beauties are reaching their end dates. They need to be harvested, and if Bruce happen to land the monsters among the midst, he should have them prepped, and hang them on his ceiling to mimic the school of his beloved pets that dwelled for so long below the water. I guess you can say, he's walking among them in spirit..

Bruce, since time is running out, did you, or do you have plans to, harvest the fish? Is that what we're seeing on your other photo, the one with the mustard and oat flour?

Almost for sure a male.  The initial stocking was done, I think, in 2005, of which this is undoubtedly a survivor.  Most of the fish from this stocking are starting to shows signs of becoming geriatric.  I'd say that most of the original year class will be gone by the end of this year or next.  This specimen however is doing great.  It's either just a special fish, or possibly it is from a subsequent stocking that was done in 2007.  Almost seems too big, though.

I was unaware that these fish lived this long.  For some reason I was thinking 4-5 years.  I am glad to hear this since mine are only 2 years of age.  I would like to get one to at least 1 pound in my little pond.

Great fish.  Any guess as to male or female?

Based on stocking records, I believe this fish to be age-7. Yes, Gage, you'll beat this fish. :-)

I showed this photo to Gage, explaining that this fish was 5 ozs bigger than his pond record. His first question... "How old is that fish Dad?" "I don't know, I'll ask Bruce," I said.

The next question... "How old are our hybrids?"  "Four years," was my answer. Now I knew where this was headed.

"How long do hybrids live?"  "We should get 7-8 years easily enough," I replied.

Then came the smack talk. " I'm gonna' beat that"....  "I hope you do too, son." was my answer.

Very nice fish Bruce! Not as tall, yet longer than what I'm used to. Since I know he's going to ask 47 times yet tonight.... Do you have an approx. age, Bruce? I can see his mental wheels turning.
