I know the feeling Jim I guess we can just grow old peacefully and enjoy out well deserved aches and pains.

i hear ya on the price of the beads dick.cheapest i found was 12.00 per hundred.the bead head i tie that i use the most also needs a decent quality hackle and i like mustad hooks.not the most expensive but not cheap.so i am getting close to 40 cents a fly.i finance most of my tackle crafting and tying by selling stuff online .my other hobby is flea markets and garage sales and a little trading.was selling flies but getting older and 3o years in construction has ruined my ability to tie more than a dozen at a time and the eyes are getting old too.i sure cant crank em out like you do anymore.

I know everyone talks about the tungsten beads and love them. I brought a few to try a couple weeks ago. I didn't buy them they are a little pricey and I give most everything I make away.

Jim mine started when I seined the pond and got hundreds of them. So I knew it was an important food source. I took a pictures and commence to mimic it. The 1st one was about 3/4". I seined again the next year and couldn't find a small one in the bunch they were from an inch to an 1 1/2 so I had to re-due the nymph so I now have 3/4" nymph to about an 1 1/8". My first cast on the smaller nymph was a Hybrid striper the a little 3/4 inch nymph way back in roof of his mouth. I was in La La land. Haven't used the larger nymphs yet just made them this fall but I'm optimistic.

i love the tungsten beads even on my summer flies.best gill water by me has steep drop offs and deep weed edges and a small bead head gets down in a hurry but not too fast and i can feel them on the strip .it sinks faster than lead of the same weight because of it being smaller so less resistance.we should start a bulk buying group on here.i will put some pics up of how to make a micro jig using a tung bead.

i really got to get a couple good nymphs myself dick.we have so many different dragon and damsel flies by me.been watching some vids on how the nymphs swim.the patterns i try the marabou damsels and pt nymphs just dont catch many fish.need something that swims.thinking some sort of bead chain contraption.

No Jim. The ones I make are with Hourglass eyes for weight and dubbing. If I needed to fish deeper I would have to wrap the hook shank with lead. The water I fish is from 0 to about 12' so they work fine for that and lots of times I put 2 on so that increases a faster sink rate..

if you view at full size its a better pic,new phone,i got the variety pack thick thin and flex.are u using the flex dick?those orange ones are tung beads coated in uv with the glow powder i got.my son fishes an old quarry and they fish pretty deep.the u v dubbing is really something too.it really lights up in the sun.oh well i love to tinker with stuff .warmed up to 8 degrees and sunny.just spent an hour clearing the driveway and it wasn't bad.might have safe ice in a few days

This is the only fly I use the UV cure on and it really toughens then up.

Good looking Jigs Jim. I've use the UV cure but I'm a bit messy with it so if I can get buy without it I do but there are is one thing I use it on that being my dragonfly nymph.
