Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Caught some fryer size catfish at Lake Morena this past Sunday. Not one Bluegill bite. The lake is sitting at 4% capacity due to San Diego City drafting most of the water out a few months ago. Worst drought in recent history in SoCal !

Oh crap, Leo, that sounds awful.

Most fishes are exposed/dead/scavenged, and the lakes are pretty much dried up to the point you can see the bottom all over southern California. If you're into the knee deep in muck wadding David, it's definitely for you ;-) So far, I only experienced a shin deep in muck in the past month, trying to do survey of water body's embankment stability.

4%?!
You should be able to walk over and pick them up!
No wonder the bluegill bite is off.

Nice, Dwayne! I haven't been to Morena in many years, but I remember it as full, clear, and a bit windy - and I got skunked targeting BG. Maybe with it drawn down so far, the fish will be concentrated enough that I might catch one, but it's not a good sign that you didn't get a single one :(

What a great catch. I got to ask, what kind of kitty is that one with the red tipped tail? Channel? Blue? Or is it the real redtail catfish from the Amazon?
