Is the Go Devil like those boats you see in Asia and S. America, for use in swamps and flooded terrain?
has any body ever heard of a go devil boat and motor?? those things I believe can go any where! just a different type of motor-- it extends out at the back end of the boat and really moves!!
Hey Tooty,
My daughter got mad at me once cause I didnt answer the phone when it rang. She, of course, would leap over the furniture if the phone even hinted at ringing.
"Daddy, you have to answer the phone when it rings!"
"Who says so?" I asked.
"Well... you just do. Someone is calling."
Sorry, but here's a news flash for you - you DO NOT have to answer it. I can see who it is and since I pay the bill, I have the choice. I choose not to."
She didn't like it, back then. Said I was being "rude."
Today, she does it to.
I now carry a cell phone with me for all the right reasons. I use it, too. I might even take it out while fishing, because it has GPS and several useful fishing related apps. Many people use their smart phones this way - it can be a tool that is very handy,
But, I will not let it become a pest, and I resent its noisome intrusion. For this reason it stays on vibrate while fishing. My wife will only call it's very urgent - she gets it. For everyone else, well... . good luck on me answering it.
Yup Richard L. I remember the days of tranquility in boats just fine !!!!!!!! I always take a cell phone with me now because my kids want me too for safety reasons. I never turn it on however unless I need it as an emergency basically ... I fished with lots of folks who have em on aaaaaaaaaaaaaaall the time and they get to be annoying , to be sure. After about the first 5 calls I tell em we are fishing and either turn it off or I'll take ya to shore so you can chat on the phone. Don't put up with it anymore cause I hate em . I think they are a great idea, just used wrongly. I always ask em what did ya do before cell phones ? They always say the same thing , never answer the question or say they are a convience , I say yup for you but an inconvienece for everyone around ya....
Now I haven't had anyone texting yet , but when I find out they have one of those devices got a real good reply for them too ........
CARL VERY INTERESTING ON THE SCULLING IDEA. I'VE SEEN LOTS OF OLD MOVIES were the folks in a boat did that and sounds like a great idea for when the modern technology fails.....Wish I knew how to do that. When I got the most recent boat I put a set of home made oar locks on it just for emergency's , like when the trolling motor quits or the main motor quits........
I remember my very first trolling motor from the very early 70's. It was a Montgomery Wards model, and it was a whopping 9 lb. thrust! I had used it on my 10' Sears john boat. I thought it was the best thing in the world as I didn't have to row to get to my favorite honey holes. As you can imagine a fully charged battery lasted for days before needing to be recharged. I used this motor till the mid 80's then moved up to a Minn Kota which I believe had about a 20lb thrust.
Ive seen old magazine articles from the 50's and 60's for home made trolling motors. The electric boat has been around since the late 1800's.
But you're right - widespread use of portable electric trolling motors is pretty new. I remember when they weren't around. Ive rowed, paddled and sailed plenty as a kid.
remember back when no trolling motors!! we use to use a short paddle- and sculled the boat!! how many guys even know how to do that!! on one jon boat we use to have; I recall we had a oar lock on the back of the boat- and used a long oar to scull it. it worked great to!!
YUP DAVID GRACEFULLY IS THE TRICK, AGING IS EASY . I"m not too graceful anymore buddy ......
Aging gracefully is the trick, Tooty.
