A good way to find ponds 7 Replies

I'll admit, I'm lazy.  Why expend a lot of effort and gas trying to find ponds, when all you have to do is open up Google Earth, zoom in on your area, and start looking?I know that I've found a LOT…Continue

Hi, it's funny we must have been thinking the same thing, the wife and I have been scouting out some ponds ,we found a bunch of them some had no trespassing. one of the ponds I went in to fish, there was A sign  abt 9' off the ground on a old tree and I did not see the sign ,the sign was old and weathered,i fished it  for a short time it started to rain on the way out I noticed the sign, and said oh no ! !  later I asked who owned the property, and found out with a couple of calls.I had explained to the guy who I was and what I had did,and I asked for permission to fish the pond. the guy  said thanks and gave me permission to fish it. I think this is a key thing to get into  land locked ponds that don't have state access. Sleepy

A couple more that we have been blessed to fish...

Matt holds on as a big gill tries to run him in the weeds.

Nine inch gills and pumpkinseeds rule this place...great strucyure!

This 7 acre public lake in southern PA has quality gills and some huge yellow perch to almost 16 inches, way under the radar!

This is one corner of the world-class hybrid sunfish pond that has produced giants for us over the years, very isolated.

Perhaps the best bass pond I have ever fished, with at least 5 individual fish from 22 to 25 inches over the past 6 years.

Fished this 'new' one in May of this year...8 to 9 inch gills out the wahzuh, 5 pound bass in the mix.

My family doctor told me the guy who owned this pond was straight-up, but the owner thought the 1/4 acre puddle was 'too small' to hold anything decent. Surprise!

More coming...it's getting late...Jim

Keeping the radar on, eh? Me Too!r pond?

Ive been toying with some cards, too, like business cards. These are very basic and mention things like fly fishing and more or less ask "Can I fish in your pond?"

These are to be handed out to people I meet around town, as conversation starters. If I was a world renowned writer, I could add that, too. I wonder - would BBG Member #553 have the same ring? Hahahahaha!

I'd just talk around and see what happens. If you have two right now, then that's 2 more that you didn't have a while ago. Don't overlook any small public lakes around either. All those recent bass and cattie pics are from a public venue.

I am in a 24/7 mode to discover new, close to home waters that might pan out. You just never know what might be in these little jewels!

Great stuff, Jim!

Its my goal this winter to line up some ponds. I have one thats been offered for years which Ive never visited and my SIL can get me into one. Plus its time for me to get over my fear of shotguns and knock on a few doors. .
