The fourth bluegill (5") I caught was eaten by a bass that looked about 19", and fat as could be. I tried to net it before it could spit out the bluegill, but failed of course. I'll be faster next time, ha.

Thats why they pack all of that air in the bags. Most of the time they are really not in danger until the bag goes flat and the air is gone

Comment by Zach Pierce on March 1, 2012 at 3:53pm: Bass are like that, I have only caught 2 since mine were stocked in Dec 2009 and I know they have had to spawn a time or two by now.

This year will be the year that the pond will see many changes I bet, or at least be full of so many little fish. I just hope they do not cause a die off.

Comment by 10.5" RES Sharon on February 28, 2012 at 6:44pm: I have bass in there, they seem to be growing, so far this year I have been unable to catch one with any type of bait or lure. Even putting a small bluegill or minnow on the hook, they ignore it right under their noses. They do come around when I used to feed pellets and eat either the pellets or the fish eating the pellets.

Comment by Walt Foreman on February 28, 2012 at 5:27pm: Sharon, those fish look fine. This time of year is a good time to transport fish - if you had enough water for them, basically a gallon per pound of fish, you should be fine. Overton's delivers - I just checked their website. That would be ideal, since they have commercial fish-hauling tanks that are insulated and keep oxygen pumping to the fish. And, they probably guarantee live fish if they deliver to you.

I don't blame you for wanting to get some of their coppernose stock. You might think about keeping all of the bluegill under 6" that you catch, and specifically trying to catch out several before you put the Overton's in, just for the sake of making room for the new fish.

Are you getting any bass? You're definitely making progress - all three of those fish below look pretty healthy. The top two look really good.

Comment by Tony Livingston on February 28, 2012 at 5:15pm: An hour and a half is a long car ride, I think it would depend on how many fish were in each bag, how much oxygen they put in the bag, and the water temps. Bluegill are a hardy fish and generally travel well if a little thought is given to their transport conditions.
