Big cats are always a surprise treat. At least one must go to the grease, when caught. It is written among the angling gods.
So always string one, when you catch it.
Nice stuff, Steve.
Finally got on the water today. The day started off pretty slow, overcast with light rain showers. Caught a couple of small bluegill, then WHAM! Something took my fly line to the bottom. Big and strong, had to get the fly line on the reel. Finally got the fish to the top. A 6lb. channel catfish! That fish did take me for a little ride in my boat, then got him to the side of the boat to be released. Caught 4 more catfish this afternoon, all 3 to 5 lbs. I have never targeted catfish to catch. Quite a thrill on a 5wt. rod. Not sure why these fish zeroed in on an olive wooly bugger, but they sure liked them today. But I really hope the water warms up a little bit more. Sure would like drag in some big CopperNose.
you should be ok for being comfortable ,just take a nice cussion with you ,(and do not forget the can.)
@ Tim - Thanks.
Its better than good shape - it's new-ish. The owner said it hadn't been out but about 5 times, and I believe it. You know that sheen that poly material and Cordura has when its new? The seat still has it.
I'm hoping my wife will like it, once she's in it. We don't really have a shared activity. Okay, she'll probably never get into fishing; I know that. If she likes yakking, well.. that would be cool.
I'd give it up to her, if she accepts that I'd be more comfortable in a Manta Ray 12, or Ride 135 or Trident 13......
David, If the outback you bought is in good shape, you stole it. $600 is outrageously cheap. If it doesn't work out, you'll have no trouble getting your money back, Congrats.
I've gotten it fully set up in the garage and it looks nice. Watching the fins work beneath the hull is a sublime thing.
Will it be too small to fish from, comfortably? In the long run, I believe so, considering the varied waters I could get into.
But, my wife now suggests that she might like it and if we (meaning me) need something bigger, well, we can see to that next.
Dear God - thank you!
david mine is 10 ft and it is easy to handle and fits in the back of my van on its side
david you will love it i see a few guys here with them and they go across the lake easy like they have a motor, the dollyis great when you have to walk to the lake from the parking lot i strap mine to my basket on the back with bungie cord and it is out of the way.
Now you're hooked David. Hope we can get you out of the water now! Have fun. Send photos of your new boat.
