David I'm sure when the eggs are fully developed the vain will disappear.

THANKS LEO I KNEW THE COMPUTOID GEEK WOULD COME THROUGH!!!!!!!!!!! Leo are you acutally going to get an outboad for the blue stealth pontoon? Would'nt it be easier to just get a boat? It would seem to be less of a hassle with unpacking and packing all the time, JUST THINK OF THE EXTRA TIME YOU'D HAVE TO FISH OLE BUDDY!!!!

Tooty, the biologist is correct. That goes the same for all species of fish, while mammal actually retain the blood veins to incubate fetuses, rather than dropping the fetuses like fish drops eggs.

 

I got a few pre-spawners with developing sacks and mid spawners with full sacks, tying to similar characterists to the blood veins around the sacks.

Hey Everyone, got a question here. Has anybody ever caught a spawning gill or redear and when you clean it and look at the spawn sack it has the red blood viens running through it ? If so what 's your take on it? A biologist in Iowa last year told me they spawn after all the red viens are gone. Reason being all the blood has been absorbed by the eggs and they drop the eggs then with in 24 - 48 hours. Any one else ever heard of that one?

I know tony, I'm lucky in that I have 2 lakes one  spring fed and a power plant lake. That stay very active and have big sunfish. but I would like to figure out where do the gills go on the other lakes and how to make them bite. I just think winter is a really good chance at finding concentrations of  big fish

I just joined the group in hopes of learning how to find and catch bigger fish. I have very little experience fishing for sunfish, just started last september, so I'm basically a newbie

This being my first winter I have yet to figure out where to find the bluegill at some of the local lakes. when the temps hit below 55 I can't buy a bite. Ive tried deep and slow and shallow and small but so far is useless, I have no idea where the gills go, this is the same lake where in october I was catching 20-25 fish between 8-10 inches

I don't think the fish are going to start staging here till the water gets somewhere in the mid 60's

I don't get out like I use to do to reasons beyond my control. But the time I get out the water is usually between 70 and 80 degrees. But I can tell you I still manage to find bedding gills. I've seen them bedding in the end of July in alot of the lakes I fish in most of my fishing being done in southern Michigan. So I'm thinking the 65 degree water temp is just your starting point for your bedding gills and the water temp can exceed 80 degrees and you still have bedding fish so don't quit after spring looking for the fish. I found that the best bite for me will be in the morning hours and give me an overcast day and I'll play havoc on them and maybe get some afternoon fish as long as that overcast hangs around.. Then for obvious reasons I'll fish the evening not quit as productive for me as the morning but catchable fish indeed. Another good thing about that July bite is I still have the option to fish the outside weed edge in deeper water like 10 to 15 feet and catch fish there. The water I choose to fish is adjutant where the beds are or use to be so I'll go out from the bedding area's find my weed bed in the depth I want and fish with that outside edge running into that deeper water. All the fishing I do is artificial that's the way I have always choose to fish knowing live bait works as well or better just a different choice or something that looks a little different which might be the ticket. So be patient figure out the fish patterns and when you do this settle into lots of deep concentration and sheer enjoyment will come your way.
