Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I finally got out and it turned out to be a great day for me. My target was Bluegills but it didn't work out as intended. I started out with Canadian Crawlers and ended up going to my old stand by which is a 1/16 oz jig. I found the color didn't seem to matter much but my main go to color today was a red and white jig head with a red twister with a white tail. Caught numerous fish but will list only the fish I kept. 23 Black Crappies, 3 Perch, 4 seeds and 4 Gills. Water temp was 64 degrees and fished jigs at a very very slow retrieve with my new Pflueger Arbor (Reel runs smooth as silk) with Sufix 6lb test line. Want to thank my sister and law who made today possible for me, THANKS PAM

Dick that is AWESOME!  I've been hoping you got out, waiting to see your pics....

Excellent fish!

Thank you Tony and it was truly an enjoyable day. The gills weren't doing mush although did catch quit a few Rock Bass. The Bass were bedding yet and 90% of the fish I caught were in about 10 feet of water on the outside weed edge. I would pull up to the weeds and cast parallel following the weed bed around. Had a great time and it temporarily filled in a void  but to be truthful that fulfillment won't last long. I am truly and have always been obsessed with fishing and I can be thankful the pond helps me out lots but I know there are new waters out there calling my name. Thanks for letting me vent or maybe its just self pity I don't know. I will be putting more pixs in my photo section a little later you take care and GOOD FISHIN..

So freaking awesome! Thanks for the photos.

great job Dick. I would take 13" crappie anyday

All the crappie I kept were 10 inches or better most being in the 11 inch range. I think I probably threw back 30 that were shorter than 10 inches, all in all I had a great day.

Congrats Dick,  I am glad you got to go out and relax.  I am glad you had a great day.  Have you tried out that float tube yet?   I got to go out 5/3/12 in the float tube.  The fish were mostly out deep, because of the rain the night before.  It went better than I hoped.  I was looking for some huge redears, but just little ones.  Happy for you!!

Dilly

No David I haven't got a chance to use it yet and the fish I caught were in about 10 foot of water. The Bass are bedding but no gill nest as of yet. Thank you for the come back and good luck and GOOD FISHIN...

Excellent fishing day Dick !Just over 13" Crappies are fine sized Fish !Love that Pseed too ,real nice fish!BTW,red and white jigs are my go to for Crappie numbers.

I wanted to ask you about Suffix 6lb test .Do you feel it lives up to the claim of much less Memory and resistance to coiling and much stronger line? I am thinking of trying it .Any smoother casting in your opinion than BPS or Cabelas Line that you know of?

John I am very bias when it comes to fishing line I love my fluorocarbons but even though we can take steps to help eliminate that dreadful birds nest it will finally happen and it's usually when your catching fish left and right so I bought a few different brands of super lines to try. I really don't see a increase in my casting distance with the Suffix but where it really stands out is in the memory. Although I've only used it this one time I have to admit I am impressed. You can feel the bite like the fluorocarbon line it casts as far but the memory so far is 0.  Hopefully I can further experiment with it to see how it withstands time it is a little pricey but if I don't have to change it out as often it may be worth the expense.

So is Suffix considered to be an improved Monofilament line or is it a fluorocarbon?

Thanks Dick!

I'm sorry John the Sufix that I used was Sufix 832 advanced superline in the lo vis green. Like I said it seems to be as good as the fluorocarbon without the memory.

Oh 832 is  a small diameter braid .Thanks Dick I'm looking into possibly purchasing some of their Monofilament lines.
