Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I caught 3 nice smallmouths yesterday on the Juniata River in PA. I landed 2 that topped 18 inches and another that was 17." I caught several more in the 10 to 15-inch range. I was using a fly rod throwing a foam popper called an Ole' Mr. Wiggley and some woolly buggers. Fun day, but a hot day. I wet waded, but it still seemed pretty hot.

Nice report Bruce….I’ve only caught a few smallmouth in my lifetime….lived in Tennessee a few years back in the early 90s….fun fish to catch….glad you got out and enjoyed the fly rod….it must be hot everywhere right now….I’m going to fish early tomorrow because we are forecasted to have heat index over 110 all week….

I can get the pictures to post for some reason.

Excellent Fish ,Bruce! Nice work!

I think I found a place on the river where I may be able to get a meal of  SMB and pumpkinseeds. The week coming up is bad for fishing, though. I have hospital stuff for 4 days. I may be good by next Friday. Then I can hold up some gills to post here.

That's great!, is this a new spot for you or are you familiar with it from past outings?

Not really new, but never fished it for pumpkinseeds there. At one time there were plenty of rock bass there, too.

Good luck with it , Bruce. Had a good session with Bluegills tonight after dinner at my favorite shore spot 32oz.Jigs/ Gulp1" Minnows.
