Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Rick

Been fishing Tenkara for the last two years. Now I only fish Tenkara and fixed line. I'm NJ based.

I am surprised there are so few posts for Tenkara. Catching bluegills on a tenkara is a blast. I use poppers mostly and will use popper dropper or a small nymph.

I'm a bit surprised myself. The connection to the fish is amazing and the rigs and method  are very simple. The best of fly fishing without the reel.  I usually fish the method 4-5 times a year but I like to fish dry.Tenkara is the equivalent of fishing a 000 weight fly rod and I love the top water action  with a #12 gnat

I'm mostly fishing micro style now. Small  5-6 foot telescopic poles, 1# test and 18 -32 hooks. Even the Tenkara guys think I'm crazy. Oh Well - JDA

Not only are the bluegill fun, you catch all kinds of interesting things using Tenkara rods.  I'm signed up to attend the Philmont Training Center this Sept for the BSA Complete Angler Train the Trainer course.  (Read trout filled streams on Philmont Scout Ranch)  We'll be concentrating on fly fishing… but I am taking a few Tenkara rods.

Meanwhile, the Bluegill and Red Devils are biting in Hawaii.
