Fishing for bullheads from the shore on sweltering summer nights with my dad and brother...we'd take some home and eat them, along with mom's home made bread and good iced tea...11,12,13 years old...before I grew up.

It was a great time!

Many more!

going fishing with my uncle;; who got he fly rod bug on me;; fishing during the willow fly hatches was no doubt the best time for me.  camping out on the river bank for a few days;;; fantastic times then!!   and I have his fly reel today  still going strong!!

The April opening of trout season in PA was always big at our house. It meant the long winter was over, fishing was here again, with baseball and warm weather to follow.

Thanks for sharing Bruce......I could see that happening for sure!

One of my favorite weekends as a kid growing up in southeastern Louisiana was packing up and heading to camp with friends and family on the Bogue Chitto river........It was a little sampling of everything good about the Louisiana outdoors.....setting jug lines for big snappers, one of which provided the huge shell for the camp's wall clock........trot lines and limb lines for abundant channel cats and big tabby cats, often called an "Op" in this region, short for Opelousas Cat........hundreds of freshwater drum in the two to four pound variety referred to simply as a "goo"..........and despite fast water we could tight line for abundant Bluegill and Redbreast sunfish........ate a ton of jambalaya and tried my first Bloody Mary........what a shock!  It would be some of the hottest days I could ever remember but the river was kept cool by the springs that fed it........getting the camp so cold at night you could barely stick out a limb for fear of frost bite..........knew we living the good life just didn't realize how good until we all grew up and headed our separate ways.......best thing about it, we always had fun!

For me it was ice fishing on New Years Day. I generally had the ice to myself, as most others were nursing hangovers. After moving to Georgia, I made it a point to start the new year off by going fishing. Now it seems that New Years is just another work day for me. Retirement is not far off, and I hope to rekindle this tradition.
