Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

We all love bluegill, and some of our catch is for consumption....but when the cleaning is done, who gets the waste????...the local gas station garbage can?....the garden?.....the woods?.....I freeze my carcass until garbage day and no one gets offended by that cadaver smell.

I triple bag the carcasses and put them in the freezer. I make sure not to say anything to my wife.

Then when it's trash day I forget them. I've even had a time that I found one of the carcass bags in the freezer that had been there for ten weeks.

Ugh.
I've forgotten them myself.....kinda makes me wonder why my Makers Mark double on the rocks tastes a lil funky!
I do the same thing. Is it wrong to feed the catfish when a guy goes out the next time?
I double bag freeze mine. Then use them when i go crabbing.
i thought you were going to say 10 years. i've never eaten bluegill, but some things ive had in the freezer for a very long time. like many years. i also collect insects because of a scholl prodject, but thats another long story. ive had them in there for about a year. havent pined them yet. I think you should throw them in the garden. They just go back to the earth, instead of leavin them in a landfill where they will just stay there forever. i think its better.
Mine are going to the garden now. I have Butternut squash that are huge . Won't be long now till a trapper I know will be wanting them all. He runs them all through a blender and freezes the paste for coon bait. ole Mike
I find it all too convenient to just take mine to the woods and donate them to the possums and coons. As I ease back into this fishing thing, I may start saving them for catfish bait and chum, though.

" What am I the only one? I live near a Goverment Housing Complex, and they have garbage pick-up twice a week. Its my way of giving some Shit back to the Man! I'm not proud of this, but I will continue to (fly dump) if my garbage day is to far away. Wife would KILL me if I even looked towards the freezer. She doesn't even think highly of the Filets in there! If it's not stamped USDA, she freaks.
I also do the freeze and wait til garbage day.Luckily my girl is always asking if I kept anything I swear she's a fish eating monster.
I take my down to the ditch on the back side of my uncks lot. Got lots of craw fish in there. Far enough the smell dont bother anybody and keeps the trout line bait coming and growin!
Same gig...freeze em in heavy bags and forget them on garbage day until Linda reminds me of what it is. Save small whole gills or gizzard shad and freeze them whole for blue and channel cats and stripers from fall through winter.
