Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Material list:  Size 10 light wire hook, tan thread, bic markers honey brown and summer melon, tan 2mm craft foam, super glue, Arleenes fabric fusion, biots, stitch witchery, brown rubber legs.Tie in biots at hook bend and cut two 1/4 inch wide strips of foam. One 2 inches long and another 1 1/4 inch long.  Tie in the 2inch strip as shown...Fold foam forward and segment evenly back toward the hook eye....like so....Trim off excess and you will be left with this.....Next take the 1 1/4 inch long strip , fold in half and cut from corner to corner as shown.....You'll have a piece like this that needs a hole punched in the center....Place the hole over the eye of the hook and tie in as shown.  This will form the head and thighs of the cricket....Color with markers on top and sides....Add a wing on the back made from doubled up stitch witchery burned in a wing burner (my needle nose pliers)...... Add knotted rubber legs and color wing ....Next take a needle and put a SMALL drop of super glue on it. Touch the needle down the side of each leg and position legs to the foam as show.  Don't stretch the legs or they will distort!  Just press them with a dry needle to the foam.  All you want here is for them to be held in this position as they will be coated later with fabric fusion for a secure hold......Once coated with fabric fusion let dry for 24hrs. This is the finished fly....Another view...Looking for some pantone markers with the fine tips that would fall in the brown/gray shade that will probably give a better coloring.  I like the profile just feel like the coloring could be better, but maybe Mr.Gill will be to hungry to notice.

Very nice Rex, Thanks for sharing.......

VERY PROFESSIONAL, REX!!!!!!  GREAT TIE!!!!!!

Great cricket Rex. When I get my supplies out again after New Years I'll try a couple. I Can already see a couple changes, maybe not so much as changes as additions. Didn't realize how easy it is or as easy as you make it look. Thanks for the post hope you got some more stuff to share.

Good looking cricket, Rex. I will have to try tying one of these. Thank you for the great pics and instructions.
