Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Has anyone used egg pattern flies for bluegill. Looks like you can make them without any fly tying equipment . Any idea of color and hook type would be appreciated

I was visiting friends who had a pond stocked with bluegill and trout.  There was a fish feeder tossing out fish food pellets.  Most of my regular flys weren't working that well, but my collection of Egg Patterns worked great.  Especially the "dog food brown" ones.  LOL   I've also caught catfish and lots of other fish that hang around the fish feeders.

Thanks, I'm going to try in a small county park pond. They will be stocking with trout in a few weeks.

Joe,
Don't forget that trout and bluegill will hit small inline spinners like a Mepps or Roostertail. What I do is tye some flys using nothing but flash-a-boo. I usually use gold or silver, but there are all kinds of colors to choose from. Depending on the weight of the bead chain eye you can get them to act like a jig or a suspending lure. You can use beads for color if you like instead of bead chain. The fish attracting flash is unbelievable. The fly pattern... again the simple Crazy Charlie.

The fish is a Red Devil... a little tropical aquarium fish released into the lakes and streams of Hawaii.  They average between 3/4 to 1 pound.  We've caught them up to 1 1/2 pounds.

Heh, looks a lot like the garibaldi, a protected ocean fish that lives along (at least) the California coast.

What else can you catch in freshwater in Hawaii?

Have you ever tried a white one to simulate bread. Bet that would be interesting

Carp fishermen in Japan use ones like that, it seems to work.

Found a company in the UK ( The Essential Fly)  that sells Bread and Dog Biscuit Flies. Going to have to order a few just to try it out on the tenkara pole.

Thanks
