Do you love big bluegill?

Trying to figure out how to post a pic of the flies that I use probably 75% of the time.

Great flies! Love the intimidation appearance of the hooks.

These flies are all used except the popper. That is my latest creation and has not yet been tested. All my poppers have been cork in the past.

HEY RAY GREAT LOOKING BUGS BUDDY and especially like the one with the eyes in upper left corner. They all look like gill getters to me buddy!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Ray. I fish with a fly rod, too. Maybe you can post the patterns to those flies? I just started fishing for bluegills last year and I'm interested in some new patterns for this year. They look great.

I have used a flyrod exclusively for about 5 years and started 45years ago.

 

Top left...Head Stand type fly on #10 curved shank hook. I like to use materials that move. Marabou, rabbit fur, coyote, fin racoon. with bead chain eyes. Either a bushy dubbed body or wrap body with hackle. Many other fish besides gill will take these including carp. These can be tied with a tail and no wing or a wing and no tail or with both. Very versitile and will sit on the bottom with the tail up.

Middle left...Soft hackle on 14-8 in desired color body and any soft feather such as starling or partridge. No body or just a thread body will work fine

Bottome left.. McGinty 12-8 ...red calf tail tail, black and yellow chenille wrapped together and a soft hackle at the head. I sometime use chartruse in place of yellow.

Top right ..Blind squirrel..google pattern...I use a bright orange dubbing instead of the squirrel hair dub. size 10-6....supposed to be a carp pattern but gill, bass, rockbass all seem to luv it. Could be tied with beadchain or small lead eyes but I tie it with no additional weight.

middle right...craft foam popper. I use a paper hole punch to punch holes in craft foam which creates 1/4" disks. I C/A glue 3 disks together to form a cylinder. Cut a slot in the cylinder and glue a 12 hump shank hook to cylinder. Just tail and hackle as desired. I have C/A glued to the hook but I may need to go to epoxy for strength. These small poppers will catch bass so be prepared. I just started making these with a 9mm dia to use as a bobber with a wet fly under it.  

bottom right....simple craft foam spider on 14 - 8 hook. I like aberdeen hooks. If it gets hung just pull to straightern the hook and bend hook back to normal. I have caught hundreds of gills on this fly in the last few years. Seldom catch anything but gills on this.
