Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Took my brother-in-law fishing Wednesday and the fish were not biting too well. Only 5 bass about 1 pound each - BUT! I put on a new spinner that I had just purchased on Tuesday and cast it out. First cast - this 11 1/8 inch beauty. Then nothing else the rest of the day!!

Below is a picture of the fish and the spinner.

At least this was a good one.

What a catch - congrats on a real beauty!!!!

HEY JIM , ANY WAY YOU SLICE IT , IT'S A GREAT GILL AND ONE WORTHY OF A PIC BUDDY!!!

David and LedHed - thanks for the comments. I've contacted my tackle shop and have found the source. McCorkle Wholesale - 1-888-333-2677 and they do have a retail store. I will get the actual stock number of this particular spinner and post it tomorrow. They have about 60 or so of this type and need the actual stock number to be sure that it is still being offered for sale. I bought 6 or 7 different types when I bought the one pictured.

Will post tomorrow when I get the info.

Jim

Is that lure basically the same as a beetle spin, except with a cricket instead of a beetle? Thanks

Jason - that's correct. I'm waiting to hear from the company that makes these for their stock number. When I get it, I'll post it here so anyone interested can get their tackle shop to order some.

Jim

Jason and everyone that may be interested in getting some of these spinners - I've contacted McCorkle Wholesale (1-888-333-2677) and they have identified the lure as "Small Al's Fuzz" with neon yellow legs. I've asked my local retailer to order some for me as the bluegill have torn mine up. Need a new supply!

Have fun reeling in the big blues!!

Jim

Ill talk to my bait shop about them. Thanks, Jim.

I usually use Charlie Brewer Crappie Slider grubs on jig spinners , which I cut down to bluegill size. But this gives me some ideas for improvements...

David....you must live close to Lawenceburg. ....I still have a bunch of the old original Charlie Brewer Sliders from back in the early 70's. I still have his book on 'do nothing' fishing.

David, just got back from my tackle shop and the "Small Al's Fuzz" lures are not what I used. My guy will look Friday when the rep comes to the tackle shop and find the correct lure. The manager of  McCorkle Wholesale has received an email from me with a picture of the lure. She has not responded back as yet - I know what she said this morning is not the correct name for the lure.

Continuing saga!!!!

Jim

Its definitely a colorful bait. Great looking fish.

Great looking fish!
