Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

The only scale that I have is one where it forces you to put a hook through either a gill or lip of the fish.  I have become more of a catch and release guy lately and was wondering if there's any decent scales that don't require me to puncture the fish.

I'm not looking for one you lay on a table or flat surface because I'd like to be able to take it with me fishing.

I've been looking on the internet, but I must be searching for the wrong stuff.  Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Check out a Boga-grip. I know they make one that goes to 15 lbs, but I don't know how "small" it goes ......

Perfect...  I just gotta look up the minimum weight like you mentioned.

Why not put the fish in a plastic shopping bag and attach the bag to the hook when weighing?

Or a small zip-lock bag.  It won't hurt the fish if you carefully put the hanger just under the tip of the jaw/gill flap.  Just don't touch those delicate red gills!

If you're going to be weighing BG, you need a scale that is accurate down to the ounce, at a minimum.. combine that with your desire NOT to have a table top scale, and that limits your options. The Boga-grip will allow you to take hold of the fish, lift it from the water, get a weight, and, after removing the hook, release the fish all without ever having touched the fish....

IF...they go down small enough for a BG......

This might not be much better than hooking the fish, but i just thought of this... you could clamp a pair of hemostats to the lip and then put the hook of the scale through the handle of the hemostats?

I guess I could open my options up to a table top scale...  I just don't think they travel really well.  I like Mike's idea of the net.
