Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Anyone have experience with this unit ? I just bought one and have been going through the manuel and viewing a Youtube vid but still have a few questions I'd like to have answered . One in particular is: What is the third socket in back of the head of the unit ?There is only the battery and the transducer to connect .This is not explained in either the manuel or the vid  unless I missed something.

Thanks for any help in advance. John Sheehan

I have a Humminbird unit, and definitely not the tri-color flasher. However, looking over other various unit with connectors, all units come standard with connector modules pertaining to the unit's function, which is the battery, and the transducer. The last connector is for PC (for updating software purposes)/duplex sharing module to connect to other connectors, such as a secondary fish finding device. Very handy when you want to daisy chain a flasher in the front to detect the immediate fish below you, and a remote unit in the rear as you steer the boat to get to a structure that has the fish.

Thanks very much Leo!! I suspected the other input had something to do with a possible  add on but am stunned that it wasn't clarified in the manuel.(unless like I said I missed something)

Now, you curiously mentioned that "I have a Humminbird unit, and definitely not the tri-color flasher." Am I to read into this statement that you dont like the tri color unit ?

BTW your comments on posts have been quite interesting ,informative and detailed!!

John. It's not that I don't like the tri colors. Rather, my unit does have the flasher unit, but in monochrome colors. The fasher is one mode. I have multiple modes that can can switch to for certain thing I need to do. Look up the Humminbird unit model 728. Wish I have the cash to shell out for the upper HDS models.

Oh I see Leo  I think the  ice 35 should serve me well but I am concerned that this unit will be fragile for getting out on the ice with an electronically abusive person like me .I will just have to be caring and gentle with it I suppose! Might go against my nature though. Thanks Leo for the correspondance!

John, I will be recieving the Ice 55 flasher very soon. I have been around flashers all my life. They are a dream to ice fish with but can be tough in open water seasons. They are extremely sensitive units and will pick up everything in the water. As far as the 3rd socket...it's for the Hummingbird 385ci unit. That 385ci is a LCD flasher/GPS unit.  It can piggyback the main flasher and act as a GPS! The Ice 35 is not capable of sotring any data. Some care is need when transporting these flasher units but they are pretty tough little guys! Once you start using a flasher like the Ice 35 you will wonder how you ever fished with out it!

Ah yes thanks BWorm!! I am hoping it will serve me well .Thanks very Much Patrick and Leo for the responses!!

BW--Congrats on the PB YPerch .A fine fish that is always willing to bite through the ice!

Thanks John! If you have anymore question feel free to shout at me.

Hey Guys -When fishing shallower than 20 ' are the readings from the flasher more confusing than when using it deeper ? The manuel makes a statement that says"The maximum range setting should not exceed the actual depth to the bottom".The lowest range setting is 0-20' so does this make fishing in shallower water a problem with this unit? I dont see why it should but this statement confuses me .In my home lake 8-15' is where I usually find the fish.

Max depth is set to give you a quicker more accurate response. The flasher model will focus the beam with more or less power based on depth. However, it really doesnt matter. The rapid response is based on whether or not the fish is below you. It normally doesnt tell you the depth unless you use the multi modes with depth finder for metering purposes. That's that when you set the depth so you can the fish display and strucutres more accurately.

Thanks Leo .Still havent had the chance to use the unit .Hope to soon!
