Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Hi glad to find this site. I joined yesterday and love to catch gills.  I will fish for anything but my favorite is to catch a mess of gills on the fly rod; but, I sure won't turn down a bass or crappie when it slurps my popper down.  I am retired and just started making all my own flies and popping bugs, and just completed my first custom built fly rod. Also like my ultralight spinner for big gills.  Looking forward to learning someones secret for giant gills and sharing some of mine.

Whatever the fish are smashing!  I like popping bugs light colors in low light dark colors in bright light. Also love chernobyl ants and other foam bugs.  I carry at least 25 different flies when I go.  Here are some pictures of some of the ones I made recently

Good Lokking Batch of POPPERS, There Mark!!!!!! Poppers are so much fun!!!!
I think Interested in learning YOUR secrets, Mark! Welcome!
Mark, Tell us about the rod you built!!!! Size and weight..... etc...!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The rod I completed is a 4 piece, nine foot, 5 wt rod.  I turned the wooden handle from an oak root. Scavenged all the old parts from previously broken rods. total cost less than $30. I love it, because it cast straight and long!  Loved the project so much I already purchased another blank (7wt).  here is a pic.

Great LOOKING ROD!!!!!! Heavier than my preference but it is a WORK OF ART!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mark, How do you like the wood handle as opposed to cork!!! That wooden handle is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!
love the wood handle its very sensitive, I was worried it would be slippery but doesn't seem any more than cork.  I use a heavier rod to get the bigger poppers out there plus those pesky bass keep slurpin em down.
Mark, sounds like you'll fit in just fine around here!
